As a kick-off for the tour, we will have a concert on May 23 to present a large selection of pieces from the Korea Tour repertoire. The Santa Cruz Chorale, a non-profit organization founded in 1983, performs a wide-ranging repertory that includes works from the 16th century through music of our time. The New Choir was invited, for the second time, to perform at the beautiful Holy Cross Church as the guest of the Santa Cruz Chorale.
The performance included:

The Santa Cruz Chorale joined in the performance with the New Choir for the Psalm 100 under the direction of Christian Grube, the Conductor and Artistic Director of the Santa Cruz Chorale. The audience greatly enjoyed this unique opportunity to see the two choirs perform together.
New Choir closes its Ninth season with the Summer of Love!
We began our Ninth season with the performance of the great Christmas oratorio Messiah by George Frederic Handel. It was fun to perform at the Le'Petit Trianon Theatre again. It was a great concert and the audience enjoyed the performance and joined the choir for the singing of the Hallelujah chorus.
And before we knew it, it was already time to wrap up our ninth season. Our final performance took place in June with a program that consisted of love songs spanning 600 years. This was probably the most diverse program we've ever had. As always, there were some old music (Renaissance love songs, Bach's Wedding Cantata, Brahm's Liebeslieder Waltzes) and some new music (Eric Whitacre's Hebrew Love Songs, compositions by top young Korean choral composers).
The Pleasanton performance included performances by the Cantabella Children's Choir. The Cantabella choir participated in the Golden Gate International Choral Festival in July, 2009 under the direction of our music director, Eileen Chang. We're extremely pleased to note that the Cantabella Children's Choir placed first in the Historical category and placed second in the Folk category. Director Chang was also honored with a special recognition by the distinguished panel of international judges who presided over the competition.
Eighth was our busiest season ever
We brought the season to a close with our concert in June. This concert was really exciting for us because we did something completely new, literally! We commissioned five new works from three composers specifically for this performance. Five of these works were premiering during the first half of the program and the second half of the program featured Haydn's Organ Mass and Renaissance motets by Hassler, Handl and Gibbons.
It was a wonderful program of old and new music and the June concerts were great success!
We wrapped up our 7th season with a double-choir treat.
The Choral Alchemy of Los Angeles (CALA) and the New Choir joined together under the direction of Eileen Chang for a concert to the heavenly land. The performances were in Anaheim and San Jose. The program included Stanford's motet for double choir, Coelos Ascendit Hodie, Bach's double motet, Komm, Jesu, Komm, and three settings of Kyrie by Dufay, Palestrina and Beethoven. We also had the great pleasure of introducing another new composition by Ms. Nak-Keum Baik, the Jacob's Ladder.
The 7th annual Christmas with the New Choir took you on a journey around the world.
We brought to you an evening of Christmas music with works old and new from all around the world. The program included works by Stanford, Lauridsen, Poulenc, Victoria, Mozart, Mechem and others and the performance set a new record for us for the number of different languages performed in a single concert. We sang in Latin, French, Burgundian, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese and, of course, Korean and English.
Our thanks to the faithful New Choir audience who again chose to make this concert a part of their Christmas tradition and celebrated Christmas with us!
Our sixth season proved to be a very busy and exciting one. Here are some highlights from the past season:
As always, we are grateful to you, our supporters, for your continued interest and financial support. Without your support, we would not be able to bring you such great news. Thank you once again.
